Peru 100 Soles Gold - Good Buy?

Hi All,

One of my dealers have a couple of 100 Soles Gold coins for sale.
The price is good imo (appx $1130), given that they contain 1.35oz gold.
(edit 1963, 1964, 1965 I think)

Very nice coins with a nice weight in the hand :D

I hesitated buying them because of the .900 purity, and because they are not so commonly recognized, and I thought that reselling them later might be harder.
I prefer to buy purer and more recognizable coins.

What's are your thoughts on this? the deal is sweet, just appx $840/oz for these nice coins.

Is it a nobrainer, and I should just get them, or are these coins "hard" to resell?

Pandaamerica have them for $1700 :confused_ma:, but the ones I can get are not BU. http://www.pandaamerica.com/subcateg...categ=34&grp=1

You may have to educate a person as to why your coin is so much higher in price.......which is always a delicate subject to say the least.

If you want to keep it for your own collection I would go for it ....but if you are thinking to sell at a later date I would be very cautious.

Thanks TA.
There is a certain feel about a 46.8g gold coin in your hand :D

You know where I am leaning now .

I am interested in what the numismatic guys on this board have to say about this coin.

It's a gov't stamped legal tender coin from a country still existing within the borders it held when that was stamped. That's as recognizable as it gets. I'd not worry about it being .900, most circulating gold was in the same class.

I'd like to think that gold was mined by the Incas a long time ago.
They also contain 4 grams of copper which adds to the value ;)

I just have one 1/4 Krug. The gazelle looks good.

If you've got the means, I'd grab it just for the originality and uniqueness factor. Remember ... go long.

True, thanks.

Looks like mintage was 23.000 in 1965.
There was one other anniversary version made with 27.000 mintage.

I will probably sell lots of other stuff before selling these beauties.

Um ... I've got a question. Why does one face say 42.1264grs and the other 46.8071?

May be a coincidence :D but .90 X 46.8071 = 42.1264 so that would be net gold content.
